Further Specialty Light Sources
Heraeus manufactures low and high pressure mercury vapour lamps used for applications such as photochemical processing, fluorimetry, mercury analysers, medical and environmental equipment, and fixed wavelength detectors.
-
Low Presssure Mercury Lamps - NK series
-
Heraeus mercury lamps of the NK-Series are low pressure, cold cathode UV lamps developed for applications in analytical instruments.
They mainly emit the monochromatic mercury resonance line 254nm. Heraeus NK lamps have been optimized for high radiance of the 254nm line obtained by having an emitting light part that is shorter resp. designed as a capillary compared to conventional UV lamps. This feature is particular needed for light sources in optical instruments such like photometer.
Applications for NK emitters:
- Photometers
- Polarimeters
- Fluorimeters
- Refractometers
- Densitometers
- Instruments for detection of mercury gases
- Wavelength calibration of optical measuring systems
- Sterilisation
- Ionisation
- Formation of radicals in air and aqueous solutions

Low Presssure Mercury Lamps - HG-2 Lamp
-
Heraeus has developed a compact low pressure , low voltage Mercury vapour lamp type HG2, principally for use in scientific instrumentation.
This lamp has a highly stable output predominantly at the 253.7nm Mercury line. When use with the Heraus C430 power supply the line output is much higher than, and the stability comparable to, that of a Deuterium lamp. Other lines, which total 20% of the output, are at 313nm, 365nm, 404nm and 435nm.
Applications HG2 Lamp:
The HG2 has a strike voltage requirement of just 21V and a typical power requirement of 2.7 Watt, making this lamp especially suitable for use in portable instruments
-
High Pressure Mercury Lamps
-
Heraeus manufactures high pressure mercury vapour lamps used for applications such as photochemical processing, fluorimetry, mercury analysers, medical and environmental equipment, and fixed wavelength detectors.
HPK 125W – Features
Heraeus high pressure lamp type HPK for use in scientific instrumentation and other applications requiring high stability UV radiation combined with an accurate position for the arc.
St-Series - Features
Heraeus mercury lamps of the St-Series are stabilized high pressure lamps developed for analytical applications. The emission lines have narrow bands, virtually monochromatic spectrum at constant, well reproducible wavelengths.
-
Black light blue lamp
-
Heraeus manufactures the TW6W black light blue fluorescent lamp that emits ultraviolet radiation in the 300-400 nm range.
The spectral characteristics of the lamp allows the excitation of luminescence which can reveal fluorescence and phosphorescence of stamps, dark room paints, bank notes, papers and in the geological investigation of stones and rocks.
-
Germicidal Lamp
-
Heraeus manufactures the TUV 6WE germicidal lamp, a low pressure mercury vapoure device emitting radiation primarily at 254nm.
The primary use of the TUV6WE lamp is for sterilization of small compartments where the compact size and direct mains operation are of particular advantage.
-
NOx lamps
-
An EDL lamp with a nitrogen/oxygen mixture gas filling emitting a spectrum in the wavelength range between 200 and 600 nm. Spectral lines in the range around 200 nm can be used for detection of NO and NO², H²S, NH³ and other compounds. Heraeus has many years of experience in the production of such UV light sources and cooperates closely with the relevant OEMs in the fields of environmental protection and control of process gases.
Fields of application:
- Combustion chemistry
- Exhaust gas monitoring
-
Excimer lamps
-
Excimer lamps are mercury-free UV lamps that emit a monochromatic UV radiation. The narrow band, the single spectral line and the possibility to select certain wavelengths make them ideal for specific applications. Moreover, they are energy-efficient and there is no undesired heat as excimer EDLs do not emit infrared radiation. The available wavelengths are: 172 nm, 222 nm, 282 nm and 308 nm. For small-scale applications, Heraeus supplies an excimer lamp with a wavelength of 222 nm and a power consumption of 10 W, with the dimensions 50 x 17 mm (length x diameter).
Applications:
- Chemistry
- Petroleum industry
- Biology
- Medicine
